The following information was provided by Angie with our local WAPF (Weston A Price Foundation)

Please let me know of any other great places you feel should be listed to make our journey towards better health and performance more enjoyable.

1) Torrance Farmer’s Market at Charles Wilson Park on Crenshaw (near the SCROC building) is fabulous! Organic Pastures (Did you know that Organic Pastures sells organic and UNpasteurized almonds, and fully pastured beef products?!) is there, wild seafood, and Ron, the guy who owns, operates, and sells his fully pastured bison products.  He emphasizes the fact that his bison are a direct lineage to the original bison that used to roam when the Native Americans did.  Fabulous stuff!   And, let us not forget about the fabulous fruits and veggies at the market, too!

2) Ditto the above (except the bison, Ron’s wife works the Sunday Hollywood Market at Hollywood and Vine) at the Saturday Santa Monica Market on Arizona near 3rd Street.

3) Rawesome in Venice on Rose Avenue west of Lincoln an absolutely fantastic little, very little, coop.  They sell ALL wild seafood, pastured meats and dairy products, and a whole lot more. Everything organic.  EVERYTHING is wonderful quality. You never have to ask if it’s organic, pastured, unprocessed, etc…There is a membership fee to shop there ($25) and they are only open Wednesdays and Saturdays.  They are kind of pricey, but you get what you pay for, you know?
4) Whole Foods – depending on which ones you shop at, you can find very good traditional type foods.  Manhattan Beach’s is huge (I call it “The Casino”) but they don’t carry Organic Pastures Quephor.  They have a pretty good raw foods section.  Torrance and Redondo Beach WF’s sell the Quephor, the butter, the milk, and the cheese when they have it in stock. They all sell Kombucha.
5) Sprouts – surprisingly very good.  They do sell Organic Pastures and Kombucha.  Their nutritional supplement and body section is very reasonably priced, better than WF.  I’m not a fan of their produce.
6) Trader Joe’s gets a B+ for effort.  They have some pretty good products.  They carry sprouted bread and some pretty good “free-range” meats.  I wonder about the term “free-range” though.  They have a good price on Lara Bars.  So does WF.  Lara Bars are a handy little unprocessed, raw food bar for in between meals.

I want vodka and coffee sooooo bad (and yes it is 3 o’clock). So I am thinking if I run and do crossfit four times a week, I got this, right? Just kidding. I will be lucky if someone doesn’t end up dead that comes in touch with me without the aforementioned substances. This is tough!

  8. Will says:

Great link Shauna glad to see that you are excited about this! when are we going to see you around here? We need pics and such for your entry.

  9. Katy says:

Hey everyone Christine suggest Lara Bars, they are yummy and Paleo. You can get them at Trader Joes, Costco, and most likely any place that sells healthy foods. Would not do these more than once per day but they would be great in a pinch. Keep up the great work…

I hear ya AIMEE. TOTALLY HEAR YA! Last week was rough at times, at other times very workable. Hmmmm, could it be my ATTITUDE? Today at lunch, I discovered humus so I feel nice and satisfied. My issues are planning ahead and the fact that I have never missed eating a meal but have rarely cooked one.
We can do this you guys!

  11. MaryJo Romano says:

Will informed me that humus is not paleo = my bad. Don’t eat it…at least for seven more weeks.

  12. Will says:

If you’re not checking out the shopping link above you should be! (on the right)

Christine is really taking the paleo bull by the horns and providing some good online ordering options. Way to go Christine, your leg work will help everyone eat healthier and get the great results that you are getting.

For the past two years OR MORE I have had chronic ear problems….just couldn’t ever get them to feel nice and dry inside, etc. I was looking through some of the Paleo information and read that too much ‘diary’ in the diet can cause ear problems…

  14. Will says:

See…This is the reason that we are pushing Paleo…MJ, I hope this does the trick for you hun!

  15. MJRomano says:

Last weekend, I was able to put on a pair of blue-jeans that …well let’s just say….HAD DUST ON THEM. This morning I ALMOST got into a pair of nice black slacks that used to be my favorite dress pants for work….I gotta say…this is the most food I have ever ate on a daily basis and I am just shocked that this is working and helping me lose weight. Giving up bread and grains and little to no diary has been rough….but I really want back into those two pairs of pants. Plus, I have more energy. Will has been trying to tell me about this way of eating for over a year now….WONDER WHY I fought him….

Thank you for hanging in there with me Will. You are helping me change my life.

    To be continued…
    MJo

  17. Katy says:

So today I had a brain fart and realized I’m not depressed anymore. Over especially the last few weeks I’ve been extremely grateful for how amazing my life is. Now my workload has not decreased, at home or in business, my relationship is the same, the kids are always awesome…BUT I feel so much better and couldn’t figure out what it was…EXCEPT… my food is different. This was huge and I wanted to share, because you all rock and have contributed to how wonderful my life is.

Also my skin seems to be healthier.

  18. MJRomano says:

WELL THEN……..I feel yesterdays workout EVERYWHERE = ALL OVER MY BODY. The POS PUSH was amazing and FUN at the same time.

    Thank you Will and Katy!

    More to come…
